To Do's - Right before you Leave
If your e-mail package has a feature that automatically informs senders
you are out of the office, do that.
Notify key people about your absence and expectations of e-mail and
voicemail responses.
If your voicemail system has this feature, record an Extended Absence
Greeting letting callers know what to expect.
If your phone system has this feature, leave your telephone forwarded to
voicemail.
Review the meetings in your calendar, and take action to cancel,
reschedule or delegate.
Water any personal plants. Arrange for watering if you will be gone over
two weeks.
Arrange for someone to check your paper mail every couple of days to
avoid filling up your mail bin.
Review any outstanding tasks or papers that need attention before you
leave to take appropriate action.
Leave copy of Itinerary & phone numbers where you will be with your
manager or co-worker
If your beeper/mobile phone will operate out-of-town, take them,
otherwise, leave them with the person that is covering for you.
Take a copy of your company phone directory, beeper and mobile phone
lists. Keep this in your carry-on luggage.
Take other important business phone numbers
Company Calling card with its International Access Codes card (if going
abroad).
Make sure you have your tickets (if ticketless, proper ID), passport and
any Visas required!
Make sure you have cash, travelers checks, and/or credit cards with
enough line of credit to get you through the trip (and a little more, just in case you
trip gets extended).
Take any company building security card. They may work in other company
locations.
Take some business cards (for people and for your luggage)
